September 26—the birthday of the musical genius Vardapet Komitas—has, by tradition, become not only a day of commemoration and tribute but also the launch date of the annual Komitas International Festival. These "12 Komitas Days" bring together the creative potential of contemporary Komitas scholarship at the Komitas Museum-Institute in Yerevan, uniting renowned intellectuals and artists, as well as those who simply cherish the immense legacy left by this great composer, ethnomusicologist, singer, educator, and musicologist. Over the years, the Komitas International Festival and conference have frequently extended beyond Armenia’s borders, taking place in major European cultural centers such as Paris, Berlin, and Vienna—cities that played a pivotal role in shaping Komitas’s own development.
